Jury Service

Jury Service in Federal Court

The justice system could not function without the participation of those called for jury duty. It is our honor to serve you as you work to ensure fair and impartial decisions. This page covers information for the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon.

You can find addresses for each of our courthouses by clicking Court Info above. Our FAQ section goes into more detail regarding serving in the District Court. In addition, the Judiciary provides handbooks for serving on petit and grand juries. Please note that Local Rule 83-14 limits the use of wireless devices in the courtroom.

Juror Employment Protection Statute

You are protected by federal statute (28 U.S.C. § 1875) from being discharged, intimidated, or coerced by your employer because of your jury service.  An employer violating this statute is subject to: Liability damages to the employee; an injunction prohibiting further such violations and providing appropriate relief, including reinstating the employee; a civil penalty of not more than $5,000 for each violation on each employee; and an order to perform community service.  A juror claiming his or her employer violated his or her employment protection rights may apply for appointment of counsel to bring such a claim.  Upon finding probable merit in such a claim, the Court may appoint counsel to represent the juror under 28 U.S.C. § 1875(d).

We the People - The Honor of Jury Service

Please be aware: If you have received a phone call or email regarding your jury duty, do NOT give out any personal information even if asked - our Court will not ask you to provide such information either by phone or email. Please contact our Jury Department (503-326-8100) if you have questions or concerns. More information about identity theft scams and malware emails is available here.

Jury Service in State Court

Federal courts are courts of limited jurisdiction. Most legal disputes are adjudicated in courts operated by the state in which the dispute arose. In Oregon, the state trial courts are called circuit courts for the county in which they reside.

If you were called to serve for jury duty by a Circuit Court of a county within Oregon, you will need to visit the Oregon Judicial Department's website for more information.

Mac users please note: Safari is not supported by eJuror. If you are a Mac user who normally uses Safari for web browsing, you will need to use Firefox to access eJuror. Download Firefox for Mac here.

  • Warning: Beware of Scams

Scammers impersonating courts for the purpose of stealing personal information are becoming increasingly prevalent. The Court wants the public to know that it will never ask for your Social Security number or other personal information over the phone or by e-mail. Nor will the Court ever send to you an unsolicited e-mail or e-mail attachment. Do not open any unexpected or unsolicited e-mail attachments because they likely contain malicious code designed to transmit personal information back to the scammer. If you are unsure about the validity of a communication purporting to be from the Court, please contact us. Contact local law enforcement if you have been the victim of a scam.
