Biographical Statement

Rob is the principal mediator and founder of Craft Mediation Northwest, an employment and workplace conflict resolution boutique serving Oregon and Washington.  He is an experienced employment law litigator, former Assistant U.S. Attorney, and certified mediator for the past 23 years.

During mediation, Rob uses interpersonal, facilitative, and evaluative techniques to gather information, raise questions, and understand the history of a workplace dispute within the framework of state and federal employment law.  A former litigator who has briefed and argued countless dispositive motions and tried dozens of arbitrations, bench trials, and jury trials, Rob understands that federal employment law cases are nuanced and complex.  He approaches each mediation with empathy, respect, and a proactive approach for identifying and negotiating the case challenges involved.

As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Rob served a collateral duty appointment for the U.S. Department of Justice EEO Mediator Corps - a program designed to mediate early employment disputes for the Executive Office of United States Attorneys.  He has completed advanced mediation trainings from the Syracuse University College of Law Mediation Assistance Program, negotiation and mediation training from the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center, and advanced conflict management and mediation training from the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation.

Rob is a past elected member of the Oregon State Bar’s Board of Governors and currently serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Oregon Mediation Association.
